Message from the Board – Jeff Alt, President
As some of you know after a severe storm, the Town of Carolina Shores, at its discretion, may pick up fallen debris. You are permitted to pile debris near, but not in, the roadway. The way this process works is once the storm has ended and the town decides there will be a pickup, an email is sent to the respective POA/HOA’s within the Town.
If you do not receive an email from the CSPOA, you will be responsible for removing any debris from your property. Please do not place your debris in the common area or a vacant lot. The Town has a yard waste and debris disposal area at the recycle center.
Vacant lots are required to be maintained by the property owner on a timely basis. Dead trees are required to be removed before they fall into the street or onto a neighbor’s property.
The ditches along the streets and the various canals throughout the community are to keep water flowing to avoid flooding. Please do not put limbs, leaves or pine needles in these ditches.
THANK YOU TO OUR BULLETIN EDITORS LINDA RUGG, MERRILEE BURNS and MARY KELEIGH

ACC Corner – Tom Wright, ACC Chairman
Let’s talk about signs in our neighborhood.
When we want to put signs on our property, we start with a CSPOA permit. Permits include Yard Sale, Real Estate, and Political signs, and yardwork/construction advertising. The guidelines state “No sign (including but not limited to “For Sale” or similar signs), billboards or other advertising structure of any kind may be erected or maintained upon a lot until after receiving written acceptance of a permit request from the CSPOA. As in all signs, the size should be no larger than 24” X 24”, and no more than two (2) signs. This rule also applies to contractors and Landscape company signs as well and must be removed at the completion of the work.
Political signs are dictated by the State of North Carolina Planned Community Act 47F law. They are much the same as other signs but include time limitations. Political signs may be displayed on your house lot no earlier than forty-five (45) days before the day of an election and no later than seven (7) days after primary or election day. Signs on improved lots shall be no greater than 24” X 24”, and on a freestanding support. No more than two (2) signs in total may be placed on any lot.
Carolina POA office hours are Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon daily or download the permit forms from the Carolina Shores POA website www.carolinashorespoa.org.
Let us help you navigate through the process.

Book Discussion Group – Patricia McKay
The monthly meeting of the Carolina Shores
Book Discussion Group was held on Friday, September 15, at our POA clubhouse at
10:00 a.m.
Despite one-half of our members being absent for various reasons, the other one-half
experienced a great, enriching meeting! We even had a new member (Sam Stevens)
join our group.
We first
discussed our September selection, "Horse" by Geraldine Brooks. The
general consensus was that it was a really good selection with its multiple
themes (horse racing, racism, Civil War, techniques used in restoring
historical artifacts, and romance!) There was a large cast of characters as
well, the most important being the greatest racehorse ever, Lexington!
Next, we shared our suggestions for our new list to be compiled from October 2023-September 2024. Each member told the title, author and a small summary of her choice to be included in our list. Absent members' suggestions were also shared with the group that were present. It was decided to have each member read a non-fiction book of her choice for October this year and to share it at our next meeting on Friday, the 20th.
Garden Club – Happy Mullen
The Carolina Shores Garden Club held its first meeting of the year on September 13 at the POA clubhouse, 17 Lakeview Ct. Our guest speaker, Vic Stephens, explained The Lord’s Acre project, which provides fresh produce to those in need of safe and nutritious food in Brunswick County. The project serves food banks throughout the county and runs throughout the year and can always use volunteers. (910-209-6119)
The presenter for the October 11 meeting is Amy Mead, Area Agent for Natural Resources & Environmental Education. Her program, “Plant this Instead”, will identify plants that are suited to the unique environment in our coastal area.
The Garden Club is planning a variety of events throughout the year, including a Soup and Bake sale in November.
New members are always welcome! The meetings are the second Wednesday of each month, dues are $10 annually and meetings include a guest speaker, plant raffle and social hour. Please contact Mary Conover at 703-409-9612 with any questions.
Carolina Shores Quilters Group – Gloria Gustavson
September opens another season for the Quilters Group. We would like to extend an invitation to all past, present and future quilters to come and join us. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. September dates are the 8th and the 22nd. Time: 10:00 a.m. Place: Carolina Shores POA clubhouse. Any questions, call me at 910-297-0066.
Care Team – Flo Pflaster
Care Team Volunteers
I would like to update this list. As of now, there are 59 people who had let me know they would be available to help with neighbors’ needs at times. I get few responses, mostly from the same 3-4 people. So, if you no longer wish to be on this list, please text me at 910-368-1070 or email me at dfp324@atmc.net
If you would like to stay on this list and would prefer to get notifications by email instead of through Nextdoor, please email me at dfp324@atmc.net and I will send out a group email when someone needs help in our community.
If you need help, please continue to let me know by calling the above number or my home at 910-575-6243.
Flo Pflaster
We have many volunteers on the Care Team, ready and willing to help our neighbors with temporary assistance. I will do whatever I can to find someone to help - all you need to do is call or email me!
Thank you,
